Job Description

We are looking for a Linguistic Expert with strong knowledge of Phonetics and Semantics to create accurate, meaningful, and contextually appropriate alt text and image descriptions for educational and academic content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create accurate and concise alt text for Phonetics, Semantics, and broader Linguistics-related images.
  • Develop detailed long descriptions for complex images where additional visual and contextual information needs to be captured.
  • Interpret and describe IPA symbols, phonetic charts, articulatory diagrams, transcription formats, semantic relationships, linguistic structures, and terminology accurately.
  • Ensure that descriptions accurately represent the meaning and purpose of the image.
  • Use the surrounding text and context to ensure that the description is aligned with the content being presented.
  • Perform quality checks on completed descriptions for grammar, terminology, consistency, and factual accuracy.
  • Follow established alt-text and image-description guidelines.
  • Collaborate with SMEs, content teams, and quality reviewers to resolve ambiguities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or advanced qualification in Linguistics, Phonetics, Semantics, Language Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of Phonetics and Phonology, IPA, articulatory phonetics, semantics, and linguistic structures.
  • Strong written English skills with excellent grammar and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret complex academic and technical linguistic content.
  • Familiarity with accessibility principles and alt-text best practices is preferred.
  • Experience working with academic, educational, or publishing content would be an advantage.
